Car strikes, kills man in wheelchair in south Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, CA – A man in a wheelchair was killed after being struck by a car in south Bakersfield on Sunday night, KGET reports. 

The accident occurred on Lotus Lane near Melwood Street around 9 p.m. on Sunday. The victim was attempting to cross the street when he was struck by a car traveling north on Lotus Lane. He was not in a crosswalk at the time.

First responders rushed the man to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the police investigation.

At this time police do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
