One dead after street racing crash in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, CA – A 19-year-old woman was killed after a Bakersfield street race ended in a fiery collision on Wednesday, KGET reports. 

The accident occurred around 6:20 p.m. on  Panama Lane near Akers Road. A Ford Mustang was racing a motorcycle when the driver lost control and entered oncoming traffic, striking another vehicle head-on.

The 19-year-old woman driving the other vehicle was killed at the scene. A passenger in her vehicle was hospitalized with moderate injuries.

The Mustang burst into flames and bystanders rescued the driver, who was also injured. He was taken to the hospital, where he was later arrested for murder, vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and street racing.

The motorcyclist fled the scene.
