Woman taking out trash killed by garbage truck in San Jose

SAN JOSE, CA – A woman taking out her trash was struck and killed by the driver of a garbage truck in San Jose on Wednesday morning, according to information from KTVU.

The crash happened in the 400 block of Fontanelle Court at around 8 a.m., as 63-year-old San Jose resident Gina Kay Cunningham reportedly ran out to take her trash to the street.

She is said to have stepped into the blind spot of a truck driver for a California Waste Solutions garbage truck, who then collided with her.

Cunningham was declared deceased after the crash. A coroner’s report today declared that her cause of death was the partial evisceration of her thoracoabdominal organs and massive blunt force injuries in the torso area.

The truck driver remained at the scene and has reportedly cooperated with the authorities.

An investigation continues, and no charges have yet been filed.
