Head-on collision on 33 leaves 2 dead

BUTTONWILLOW, CA – Two people were killed in Buttonwillow on Saturday night after two vehicles collided head-on, Bakersfield Now reports.

The crash occurred on 33 north of Lerdo Highway around 5 p.m. A 2009 Honda was travelling north, when the driver lost control and entered the southbound lanes, striking a 2003 Toyota.

The Honda’s driver and a male passenger died in the crash. The Toyota driver sustained moderate injuries and was hospitalized.

It is unclear what caused the Honda to enter the southbound lanes. Police are investigating whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
