STOCKTON, CA – An accident on State Route 12 near Stockton left three people dead on Friday afternoon, according to CBS News.
The accident occurred near Peatland Road around 4:20 p.m. A 28-year-old Oakland woman was driving 100 mph in a 2013 Hyundai Elantra when she attempted to drive on the gravel shoulder. She then lost control and swerved back into eastbound traffic, striking a 2012 Honda Pilot.
Both cars then hit a 2001 Toyota Camry in the westbound lanes. The Elantra and the Pilot then flipped onto their roofs and landed in a nearby ditch.
The driver of the Elantra died at the scene, along with two men in the Pilot, aged 30 and 25. The driver of the Pilot, a 41-year-old man, sustained moderate injuries and was taken to the hospital.
The 38-year-old Camry driver was hospitalized with minor injuries.
Police are unsure if drugs or alcohol were a factor.
