25-year-old dead, 2 injured after alleged DUI in Coronado

CORONADO, CA – A 25-year-old woman was killed and two other people were injured after an allegedly drunk driver crashed into a pole in Coronado early Friday morning, according to NBC San Diego.

The collision happened in the 1100 block of Orange Avenue near 10th Street at about 12:26 a.m., after a driver failed to make a turn. The vehicle then crashed into a nearby lamppost.

A passenger in the rear, a 25-year-old woman, died at the scene.

The driver, a 20-year-old man, and a second passenger, a 20-year-old woman, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening wounds.

Authorities believe that the driver may have been under the influence and speeding when the collision occurred. He was later taken into police custody on suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.

The crash remains under investigation.
