Man riding scooter severely injured in University City crash

SAN DIEGO, CA – A man riding an electric scooter sustained multiple injuries during a crash in the University City neighborhood on Monday afternoon, according to information from FOX 5 San Diego.

The collision happened in the 4100 block of Nobel Drive near Regents Road at about 2:19 p.m., when a 47-year-old man riding a Bird electric scooter made a left turn on a red light. He then collided with a Hyundai Elantra being driven by a 58-year-old woman.

The scooter rider, who was not immediately identified, sustained multiple life-threatening injuries. These include cervical fractures, a fractured femur, and soft tissue damage.

The other driver was not hurt in the collision.

Authorities do not believe that intoxicated driving played a role in the crash. Their investigation is ongoing.
