Narrative
POLLOCK PINES, CA – Five children were sent to the hospital after they were struck by a Ford E-150, an appliance repair van while crossing Pony Express Trail near Oak Street before 10:45 a.m. Wednesday. California Highway Patrol said that the intersection has no stop sign or stop signs at this marked crosswalk. The driver, a 21-year-old adult, did not speed and did not show signs of impairment. However, distracted driving may have played a role in this crash. It is unclear if the kids were walking alone or with adult supervision. Officials confirmed that all the children who were hit were students of Pine Top Montessori, a school serving students up to the age of 6. All five of the students – three boys and two girls – sustained minor injuries. Four were airlifted to hospitals, and another was transported by ground. The children’s current conditions are unknown. The driver remained at the scene, and no charges were pursued.
